Portuguese 1

This is a beginning course designed for students who have limited or no background in Brazilian Portuguese; no previous exposure to Portuguese is necessary. The class emphasizes oral and written communication skills, and upon completion the student will have acquired basic conversation skills. This class will focus on: grammar (gender, subject, object, prepositions, and pronouns); verb conjugation (present, past, and future tenses – regular and irregular); vocabulary (numbers, date, time, occupations, nationalities, family, clothing and food). Moreover, basic conversation structures will be introduced.

This class runs for 12 weeks and meets once a week for 2 hours at a time, for a total of 24 hours of instruction. The instructor for this class is a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker, who has taught Por- tuguese in various capacities for several years. Upon completion of this course the student is ready to take Portuguese II.
