Portuguese 3

This is an intermediate course designed for students who have a background in more than basic Brazilian Portuguese, having had at least the equivalent of 40 hours of previous instruction, or have completed the Portuguese II course. This class emphasizes oral and written communication skills, and upon completion the student will be able to handle basic everyday conversations by means of the solid conversational skills acquired. This class will cover: pronunciation; grammar (reflexive pronouns, indefinite pronouns; comparisons; superlative; diminutive); verb conjugation (future, imperfect, com- pound tenses); vocabulary (idioms, popular expressions, sayings), culture (here we start reading about Brazilian history and culture). Moreover, conversational structures will be used throughout the class. THE INSTRUCTOR WILL BE SPEAKING PORTUGUESE ALMOST THE ENTIRE TIME.

This class runs for 12 weeks, and meets once a week for 2 hours at a time, for a total of 24 hours of instruction. The instructor for this class is a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker, who has taught Por- tuguese in various capacities for several years. Upon completion of this course the student is ready to take Intermediate Portuguese.
