Advanced Portuguese

This is an advanced course designed for students who have a conversational level of Brazilian Portuguese, i.e., at least 120 hours of Portuguese instruction. This class emphasizes oral and written communication skills, and upon completing this class the student will be only one level away from becoming fluent. This course will cover both spoken (colloquial) and formal Portuguese, through many different texts and discussions in class that will make the student use all the verb tenses and expand the vocabulary. As for the grammar, all the tenses will be reviewed, with a special attention to the irregular verbs. A very special attention will be given to idioms and idiomatic expressions not found in a dictionary. Last but not least, the cultural aspects of Brazilian day-by-day life will be shown by the book, the instructor and the students who had lived in Brazil. Moreover, conversational structures will be used in the class. The class runs for 10 weeks, and meets once a week for 2 hours at a time. This class is taught by a native Brazilian instructor from São Paulo who has been teaching Portuguese in different capacities for over 8 years.

Casa de Cultura Brasileira

The “Casa” is located at 1022 W. Argyle Street, Suite 202 – in the heart of Little Vietnam, and its mission goes beyond that of a language school. We are constantly in touch with Brazilians working with different aspects of Brazilian culture and are scheduling a number of presentations, workshops, lectures and shows on music, dance, culinary, religion and much more.

Casa de Cultura Brasileira first opened its doors in January 2007 and is proud to announce that by the end of that same month we had eight groups, ranging from a beginner course to conversation classes.

Soon Casa will be also an open space for everyone interested in Brazilian culture. There will be a library with books and videos; live Brazilian TV and, of course, “cafezinho” for our visitors and students.

Please join our mailing list so that we can keep you updated on all the activities going on at Casa de Cultura Brasileira.
